Munchkin Cat Breed Information and More!







Munchkin cat is just a regular cat with short-legs. These cats are actually a dwarf and not a miniature cat. An autosomal dominant gene causes the short legs. This breed has been around for about a decade in North America, and from the start attracted lots of attention. People either liked the breed or don’t. When this breed of cats breed, they don’t consistently breed short-legged kittens. They either have a litter of short-legged kittens or long-legged kittens.

This breed was named after the little people of Munchkin land in the “Wizard of Oz.”

The body of this cat is medium sized, substantially muscled. It is neither thin nor cobby. The head is almost triangular, and the nose is medium length. Ears are moderately large and wide at the base and upright. Eyes are walnut shaped, large and slightly tilted. Their tail is set height, medium thick, tapering to a rounded tip. Their legs are short and well muscled. Paws are round, compact, and points forward. The weigh around 5-9 lb (2.25-4kg). Their fur comes in all colors and patterns and could either be long or short.

The temperament of this breed is appealing, inquisitive, loving and sociable. They have a kitten like personality and they remain like this all their life. They are very playful and curious and love to run around, chase, climb, and play with toys. They are Very outgoing cats with lots of energy and can be trained to walk with a harness.
